MIYAWAKI FOREST

MIYAWAKI METHOD FOR DENSE FOREST

What is the Miyawaki Method?

The Miyawaki forestation method is a unique way to build dense, native forests. It is pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. With this planting method, an urban forest can grow in a short period of time of 20 to 30 years, while a conventional forest takes between 200 and 300 years to grow naturally. In the Miyawaki technique, several native species of plants are planted close to one another. So that the greens only receive sunlight from above and grow upwards rather than to the sides. This makes the plants around 30 times denser, grows 10 times faster and becomes maintenance-free after 3 years.
